Taking off is the key to anything in motocross. According to Ride a Dirt Bike (the basics) “With the bike in first, you want to slowly let off on the clutch and give it a bit of gas.” First the bike needs put in first gear by pulling in the clutch and kicking the shifter all the way down. While Giving the dirt bike some gas the clutch also needs let out slowly. The bike will start to move. Once it starts moving the clutch needs to continue being let out slowly. After this has been done, the bike will be off to a start. If the clutch is snapped out the bike might start moving but it will stall. The dirt bike if given to much gas and the clutch being snapped out can also flip or wheelie.
Shifting, while being challenging at first can become very simple once it has been learned. According to How To Use A Clutch On A Dirt Bike.“While squeezing the clutch, push the shifter down with your left foot to put the bike in first gear”. Let off the gas before shifting, and then pull in the clutch while not giving it any gas. After pulling in the clutch and letting off the gas the shifter needs to be kicked up or down on the left side of the bike. The clutch has to be pulled in while shifting up. Once the bike has been shifted up let go of the clutch and hit the gas.
After taking off and shifting gears the next skill to know is how to stop. According to Ride a Dirt Bike (the basics) “...shift into first, pull in and hold the clutch, and brake.” When being ready to stop, the clutch needs held in. While holding in the clutch the gears also need shifted into first by hitting the shifter down multiple times the the left foot. After having done this pull in the front brake and step on the rear brake lever. After the bike stopped put the bike in neutral then let out the clutch.
